Origin of the Term "Salt Nic"

"Salt nic" refers to nicotine salts, a form of nicotine naturally present in tobacco leaves. Unlike freebase nicotine (the standard used in most traditional e-liquids), nicotine salt is created by adding an organic acid — most commonly benzoic acid — to the nicotine molecule. This chemical reaction stabilizes the nicotine compound, creating a "salt-like" molecular structure. Despite the name, it doesn't involve table salt and contains no sodium.

Why Was Salt Nicotine Created?

Smoother Throat Hit: Freebase nicotine becomes harsh above ~12mg/mL, but salt nic remains smooth even at 50mg/mL.
Faster Nicotine Delivery: Mimics the rapid absorption of nicotine found in traditional cigarettes.
Optimized for Pod Systems: Designed for lower power devices, salt nic excels in compact, discreet hardware that's easy for former smokers to adopt.

Comparison Table

Form	Name	Why "Salt"?	Best Use Case
Freebase Nicotine	Standard e-liquid	Pure nicotine, no acid added	Sub-ohm devices, large clouds, lower strength
Nicotine Salt	Salt Nic	Nicotine + organic acid (e.g., benzoic)	Pod systems, higher strength, smoother hit
